Hair Relaxer Litigation

Hair relaxers and/or straighteners are widely available hair care products used predominantly by people of African descent, often regularly over a long period of time. In 2022, a study was published by the Journal of the National Cancer Institute which found an association between the use of hair straightening products and uterine, endometrial and/or ovarian cancers. See Use of Straighteners and Other Hair Products and Incident Uterine Cancer, JNCI J Natl Cancer Inst (2022) 00(0): djac165.

Women who used such hair relaxer products and were diagnosed with uterine, endometrial and/or ovarian cancers may be eligible to pursue legal action. The hair relaxer lawsuits’ allegations include that the various manufacturers failed to adequately warn users of the risks, negligently designed the products, and did not conduct sufficient safety testing. The exact claims available are dependent upon the applicable state law.

Lawsuits are being filed in the Hair Relaxer MDL in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Judge May Rowland. Our firm represents, and has filed claims for, over one hundred individuals who were diagnosed with uterine, endometrial and/or ovarian cancers and who used hair straightening products. We are currently reviewing and accepting hair relaxer claims nationwide.
