Acadian Ambulance Data Breach
We represent individuals affected by a data breach that occurred as a result of Acadian Ambulance’s failure to properly safeguard its computer systems. On or around late June 2024, unauthorized actors gained access to Acadian’s computer systems. A notorious ransomware gang called “Daixin Team” claimed responsibility for the cyberattack. Daixin claimed to have stolen, sorted, and compiled the Social Security numbers, names, dates of birth, medical records numbers, and medical and treatment information belonging to over ten million individual Acadian patients and employees. The whereabouts of the criminal organization behind the attack, Daixin Team, are unknown.
Plaintiff and Class Members trusted Acadian with their sensitive and confidential personal identifying information (“PII”) and protected health information (“PHI”). Plaintiff reasonably expected that Acadian would safeguard his and Class Members’ highly sensitive PII and keep their PHI confidential. Despite this, Acadian failed to implement reasonable data security measures to protect Plaintiff’s and Class Members’ PII and PHI, and ultimately allowed nefarious third-party hackers to compromise Plaintiff’s and Class Members’ PII and PHI.
Following this data breach, we filed suit on behalf of Plaintiff in Calcasieu Parish. The Defendant, Acadian Ambulance, has challenged that Calcasieu Parish is a proper venue. Acadian recently filed a writ application in the Louisiana Supreme Court seeking to move venue to another parish. We are currently waiting on a ruling from the Louisiana Supreme Court.
