For over fifteen years, Stephen has represented plaintiffs in complex litigation. For example, he was part of the trial team in the landmark Scott v. American Tobacco litigation that resulted in an award of over $270,000,000 for thousands of individual smokers harmed by the tobacco industry. For his work in the Scott case, he was later nominated for Trial Lawyer of the Year by the Trial Lawyers for Public Justice. Stephen represents public entities as well. Indeed, from representing state attorneys general in pharmaceutical litigation to representing parish governmental entities in environmental litigation, Stephen has a well-earned reputation as a lawyer who relishes taking complex litigation to trial. His trial work is complemented by his vast appellate experience. He is routinely looked to for effective drafting and arguing of appeals in both state and federal court. No matter whom he represents, Stephen’s goal is maximizing his client’s recovery.

Due to his reputation of integrity and his legal ability, courts routinely appoint Stephen to committee positions in state and national class actions and multidistrict litigation. His high standing among his peers is reflected by his Martindale-Hubbell® highest possible Peer-Review rating of A.V., 5 out of 5, Preeminent. He has also been selected for inclusion to the Louisiana Super Lawyers list from 2009-2011. Additionally, he frequently lectures on trial techniques and class actions.

Stephen’s competitive nature is evident even outside the courtroom. In what little free time he has, Stephen competes in regattas around the globe.
